Hastings Model Flying Club Ltd. is one of the leading clubs in the south east area and has run the Hastings Model Air Show for 14 years up to 2010. We maintain a membership in the order of 100 flying members, and we fly a wide variety of disciplines with a strong accent on fixed wing power.
We are affiliated to the BMFA and operate to strict rules incorporating the BMFA Guidelines.
The Club has a good safety record and the field has been laid out with this in mind.
The Club is managed by an elected committee of nine and is a limited company having four directors.
HMFC can trace its roots right back to 1948 when Norman Butcher and friends established model flying in Hastings. The Club later became established at its present location near Pevensey on land rented from the local farmer. The Club then arranged to purchase the land, 20 acres in all, from the farmer in the late 90’s and now owns it outright having cleared the mortgage in the early 2000’s. The Club has a certificate of lawful use for our use of the land and is thereby able to provide a permanent and stable environment for the continuation of model flying.
The field is maintained to a high standard of presentation.
The Club offers a number of Club Nights for the enjoyment of the members and refreshments are provided.
We have a number of examiners for those wishing to take part in the BMFA Achievements Scheme and although we do not see ourselves as a flight training school we do have a number of Club Instructors who can offer support to those new to the hobby. We also have a BMFA Area Chief Examiner as a club member.
We run several fly-ins at the field each year and not only have these been very successful in promoting the Club and the hobby but also in encouraging new members to join the club. Check our CALENDAR page for dates.
The location of the field is at Middle Bridge (which crosses the Wallers Haven river) on the A259 between the Pevensey roundabout (BN24 5JW) and the Lamb Inn (TN33 9HH). The entrance to the field is from one of the old lanes left after the main road was straightened. The Bridge is at the corner of our field. View us on Google Maps, HERE.
